About Vis
Vis is the furthest Croatian island from the mainland and has a fascinating history that dates back to ancient times. Once a strategic military outpost for the Greeks and Romans, the island has witnessed the rise and fall of various empires. In more recent history, Vis played a crucial role during World War II as a Yugoslav military base.
The island was closed to outsiders until 1991, because of this, many visitors are drawn to the island’s traditional setting.
Today, remnants of its past can be explored in the form of well-preserved ancient architecture, including charming villages like Kut.
